Have you been attacked by common
cough and cold before or during the winter this season? The
disease is so common that we some times neglect it unless
we suffer seriously.
Have you tried to find the reasons of the
attack from cough and cold? The disease may be an attack of
uncomplicated influenza commonly
known as flu.
It is a contagious respiratory illness and
is caused by Influenza virus. Have you checked that your colleague
at work place was coming with similar illness?
However, be careful. This common disease
can cause mild to severe illness and some times may be fatal.
So don't neglect.
There are three types of Influenza - Pandemic
flu, Bird flu or avian flu
and Seasonal flu.
What is the effect of Influenza? This causes
fever, chills aches and pain and also cough and sore throat.
Some times can cause life threatening Pneumonia and secondary
bacterial infection which invites more diseases.
Appropriate medicine for uncomplicated influenza
is generic tamiflu whose medical name is
Oseltamivir Phosphate which attacks the influenza
virus and stops it spreading inside the body. It is an oral
anti viral medicine.
The recommended dose of Tamiflu is one 75
mg capsule to be taken two times daily. The medicine is to
be taken for five days.
The medicine can be taken with or without
food.
The drug has been approved for treatment
of Type A and Type B Influenza.
The drug has its side effects too. The most frequently reported
side effects are nausea, vomiting, bronchitis, trouble sleeping
and dizziness.
The drug is not approved to be used for children
under the age of 18.
Its effectiveness to prevent the flu or to
decrease the risk of transmitting the virus to others has
not been established.
In conclusion we would suggest not to neglect
the influenza as suitable medicine like Tamiflu was readily
available. However, the best way to prevent attack from influenza
is vaccination before every fall.
