drugs!
Generic
drugs, like other new products, are typically made under
patent protection. It protects the investment in the drug's
development by providing the company the right to exclude
others from selling the drug while the patent is in effect.
When patents or other periods of exclusivity expire, manufacturers
can make and sell the approved generic versions.
About the cost factor, the generic manufacturers
have plenty of competition, less R&D costs, and spend
