costs of the branded drugs? These drugs are usually costly

Ever heard about generic drugs? Generic
drugs are identical to the branded drugs in terms of its
active ingredients. For instance, the active ingredient of
Viagra is sildenafil citrate. It also contains a number of
inactive ingredients. Now, the generic
Viagra must contain sildenafil citrate as its active ingredient.
Cialis majorly contains tadalafil. So, generic
Cialis must also contain tadalafil as its active ingredient
along with other inactive ingredients.
The Generic pills have to look differently
because of the trademark laws of the land that prohibits the
identical look and feel of the drug. The patents of the drugs
also prohibit the manufacture and marketing of branded drugs
by other companies. So, the generic version of drugs contains
minor variations in its ingredients. But the active ingredients
always remain the same.
The sale of generic drugs is perfectly legal
and approved. Thise is because the safeguards assure that
these drugs are manufactured under strictly quality control
regime and resultantly, have the same effect as that of the
branded drug.
Generic drugs are usually less expensive
because not a lot of money is spent on their R&D. Actually,
when the patent of the branded drug nears its completion,
a lot of other companies apply to sell generic version of
the drug. This makes their cost less than half of what the
branded drug-companies charge.
According to latest figures, generic drugs
constitute approximately half of the total drug sales. The
figures prove their general acceptance amongst the people
concerned. And the expectations are that the sale volume of
generic drugs is likely to go north.
