According to the British medical experts, there is no strong evidence against the pharmaceutical firm Sanofi Aventis's claim that its diet drug Acomplia, also distinguished as rimonabant proffers additional benefits other than just weight loss.
The report released in the Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin (DTB) said that there is no clinical proof which proves that Acomplia is also beneficial for the cure of other ailments in addition to obesity.
Sanofi's website asserts that Acomplia also has additional therapeutic impact on the blood glucose and lipid levels. The drug has been marketed in the U.K. since June 2006.
But if the expert's report is to be believed, Acomplia don't affect LDL cholesterol or nor the high blood pressure. And as far as the lifestyle changes occurred while the clinical trails are related, they might be because of the advice provided to the participants before the commencement of the trials.
Researchers said that acomplia was not evaluated with other available diet pills that also come at low price. Beside, they also are not very sure that the drug lessens the odds of ailments pertaining to obesity.
Yet, they were pleased with Xenical (Orlistat) as the drug has more relevant evidences against its efficacy and safety.
This news release is entirely a personal opinion. It should not be misconstrued as a medical advice.
