Cipla got marketing approval for Anti-Flu
from drug controller-general of India. Cipla will launch a
generic version of bird flu drug, Oseltamivir,
in the domestic market this month. The drug would be priced
at about Rs 1,000 per strip of 10 pills.
“Cipla plans to sell the product in
49 countries where the patent is not applicable,” company
sources said.
Each tablet of Anti-Flu
will contain 75 mg of the wonder formula. Two tablets consumed
everyday over five days will stop the flu from dispersal.
The company plans to sell the drug at less than half the market
price. At present, 10 tablets of Tamiflu
sell for $60.
"We have received four export orders,
the first one of which will leave by the end of this month."
Cipla's joint MD Amar Lulla told TOI.
Sources also added that “The risk of
the disease in India and other poor countries is very high.
So, we decided to go ahead with manufacturing and marketing
of this product in India, where Roche or Gilead are yet to
receive the patent.”
This news release is
entirely a personal opinion. It should not be misconstrued
as a medical advice.
