As we grow older it seems that
we are in a constant battle with fat and the resultant problem
of obesity. There are many ways to lose weight, but it is
not always easy to keep the weight off. Because, the older
we get the harder it is to lose
weight. The key to successful weight loss is making changes
in our eating and physical activity habits that we can keep
up for the rest of our life.
Health professionals suggests that a weight
loss of even 5 to 15 percent of body weight may improve our
health and quality of life, and prevent weight-related health
problems like diabetes, heart disease, high
blood pressure, high cholesterol,
gallbladder disease, some types of cancer and others.
There are varied weight loss interventions
available in the market that one can choose from. But, broadly
speaking, weight loss plans are of two types, viz., non-clinical
and clinical. A non-clinical weight loss program mainly focuses
on providing healthy diet plans and regular physical activity.
On the other hand, a clinical program provides services in
a health care setting, such as a hospital. A clinical program
usually offers services such as nutrition education, physical
activity, and behavior change therapy. It also gives suggestions
on prescription weight loss drugs
or gastrointestinal surgery.
Diet Plans:
- Avoid foods with high saturated fat and keep total fat
intake between 20 to 35 percent of calories.
- Limit the intake of sugar and alcohol.
- Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day because it
is a natural appetite suppressant.
- Eat plenty of natural foods such as vegetables, fruits,
and whole grains.
- Eat low fat protein-rich food like tofu, beans, eggs,
and low fat milk, yogurt or cottage cheese.
In order for any fast weight loss tips to
work properly you must create a caloric deficit by burning
up more calories than what you are eating.
In addition to a reasonable low calorie diet
plan, you should include daily exercise to your routine. Your
routine physical activity may help you lose weight and lower
your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes,
and some cancers. Experts recommend doing 30 minutes of moderate-intensity
physical activity like walking, biking, sports, aerobic exercises
and housework, on most or all days of the week for good health.
People with the body mass index of 30 or
more and having weight-related health problems, may consider
using diet pills. These range from common over-the-counter
appetite suppressants such as phenylpropanolamine, caffeine
pills and ephedrine hydrochloride, to prescription medications
like dexfenfluramine, phentermine, Didrex
and fenfluramine.
Prescription diet pills should only be used
in cases of extreme obesity. Prescription diet pills
have various health risks, since it increases your chances
of primary pulmonary hypertension. Apart from these diet pills,
there are several natural or herbal weight loss products available
in the market. Hoodia Gordonii, a species of cactus plant,
is a natural hunger suppressant. Green tea is another natural
ingredient, which helps in decreasing the body fat by increasing
metabolism.
So, if you desire to possess a slim and healthy
body then opt for these drugs and herbs. But do remember that
the best way for weight reduction is by cutting down your
food intake and increasing your daily physical activity.
