Fertility is the ability to
produce healthy offspring in abundance. The term was usually
applied to females, but increasingly is applied to males as
well because of common understanding of reproductive mechanisms
and the importance of the male role. Human fertility depends
on factors of nutrition, sexual behavior, culture, instinct,
endocrinology, timing, economics, way of life, and emotions.
Enlisted below are some familiar causes
of Female Infertility:
Endometriosis:
In this condition, the endometrial tissue (the uterine lining
that sheds with each monthly period) grows outside the uterus,
is a major cause of infertility in women causing painful menstrual
periods, irregular or heavy bleeding and possibly, repeated
miscarriages.
Ovulation Problem:
Any condition (usually hormonal) that prevents the release
of a mature egg from an ovary is generally related to ovulation
problems causing absent or infrequent periods and excessively
heavy or light bleeding (improper sentence formation, abrupt
ending & starting).
Poor Egg Quality:
Eggs that become damaged or develop chromosomal abnormalities
cannot sustain a pregnancy. This problem is usually age-related.
The egg quality declines significantly in the late 30s and
early 40s.
Age Factor:
Age is the single most important factor affecting a woman's
fertility. As she matures, the chance for pregnancy decreases
and the odds for miscarriage increase. At 25, a woman has
a 25% of becoming pregnant during unprotected sexual
intercourse. This percentage begins to decrease between
the ages of 32 and 34. After that, the decline is steady so
that the chance for pregnancy is only 5 to 10% per menstrual
cycle after a woman reaches age 40.
Treatment
Now a day's Laparoscopic surgery is being used to
remove abnormal tissue or unblock tubes and assisting conception
treatments. With regards to ovulation problems ovulation stimulating
drugs or follicle stimulating hormones or in-vitro fertilization
can be helpful in some cases.
Infertility is a tough situation
for women. Many of them conclude that they can't conceive,
but that is not true. At times it takes long to conceive and
even if then one is not able to, and then these medical aids
are there to help one out of these difficult situations.
