Successful talks between the health ministers of
India and South Africa concluded with a plan to export cheap generics
from India to South Africa. Drugs will be exported soon after obtaining
permission from the Medicines Control Council in South Africa.
Indian generics are popular worldwide and it’s
cost effective too. The visiting Minister showed concerns on MCC’s
strict drug guidelines but said South African market will only have
generic drugs which are safe and cheaper. Till now the South African
market has been controlled by a monopoly but sooner we will see
glimpses of the Indian Pharmaceutical industry said Manto Tshabalala-Msimang,
the health minister. India produces generic
drugs which treat HIV and South Africa has one of the highest
HIV victims in the world.
