Alcoholism leads to Male impotence

04 November, 2005

A new study suggests that males who drink too much of alcohol may be in danger of not only dampening their sex lives, but harming their chances of having children as well. It can make them infertile or impotent.

Researchers from India found that men being treated for alcoholism had lower testosterone levels and more sperm abnormalities than non-drinkers. They also had a far higher rate of erectile dysfunction (ED) as compared to non drinkers. The study also shows that a couple might be in greater risk of having a miscarriage if the male has ten or more drinks during the week of conception.

The study also shows women who drink excessive amounts of alcohol are also at a greater risk to impair their reproductive health as well. Therefore it is advisable for both men and women to refrain from chronic alcohol consumption if they want to procreate and lead a normal sex life.
